I'll plan to come in tomorrow at 10 -- I'd love to hear about this then.
Sorry I wasn't around from one of the previous presentations ...

My main concern is what I'll need to do to netbeans.org to make it fit the
new model; I'm also hoping the new model will solve one of the problems on
netbeans. Namely: upgrading helm required cvs commits to the local
repository. (Ug! This is because the client wants control over the
site's appearance ... it can be done better, I think, but I haven't looked
too closely so far.)

thanks! ;-)

Uh, on various whiteboards. X^(

I guess I should commit something to paper, tho'. :^/

I've sketched it out several times for various audiences. These folks, at a minumum, have seen it: Jason R, Dan P, Niels M, Naren N, Kerry F, Josh Lerner, Josh Lucas, Dan R.

It felt like time to prototype. :^)

> Or has it been defined yet?

The broad strokes, yes, and many of the details too. I prototyped it using sourcexchange.com as the instantiation, and was reasonably pleased with the results. I'm just now starting a second pass, using otnxchange as the instantiation. Michael Stack, who joined us yesterday, is helping me. He developed the deployment mechanism at his previous company, and can offer some hard-won experience from those endeavors. 8^)

Ed, I certainly want you review the structure. Sorry you weren't in the office when I indoctrinated Josh Lucas. ;^) How early can you be in on Wednesday? I plan to go over it in detail with Michael in the morning (say 10:30?). In particular, I want to make sure it's buildable in the newest incarnation of conf. I don't forsee any problems, but let's at least give it a cursory glance. ;^)

I had hoped to have something to show on Thursday, but a lot depends on how much of my time gets vacuumed away Wednesday. =8^0

Where can I find information on the forthcoming instantiation structure?
Or has it been defined yet?

This account was created in the mad scramble to get OTN Xchange out. For a variety of reasons, it was expedient to create this shared account plus sandbox.

Agreed. I think otnx had outlasted its usefulness. Any remaining changes in the otnx sandbox should either be committed or dropped, and the account (plus sandbox) should be deleted. Everyone involved in OTN Xchange should perform any future development in their own personal sandboxes.

> 2) why is there anything OTN-specific in Joist?

Good question! My guess is that this is a mistake. Can anybody tell me why this change should not be backed out? This sort of change (e.g., a name change) should always be done in the instantiation. Let's talk. :^)

The forthcoming instantiation structure should alleviate these kinds of problems.

P.S. Josh, can you verify that everyone who needs to has subscribed to otnxchange-dev at collab dot net?

Message 1) why is there a "user" named otnx? We should never have role accounts
like this, it takes away the ability to tie a patch to an individual.

2) why is there anything OTN-specific in Joist?
